World Cup 2026: Ghana-born Mohammed Muntari named in Qatar squad

Ghanaian-born forward Mohammed Muntari will make his second World Cup appearance after being named in Qatar's squad for the tournament in North America.

The 32-year-old made the final 26-man squad released by coach Julen Lopetegui on Monday, June 1, 2026, following a brief camping in Ireland.

Muntari and his teammates left for the United States on Sunday, May 31, 2026, to continue preparations ahead of the competition which begins in ten days time.

The Al Gharafa forward has been a key figure for Qatar since switching nationalities to represent the Asian nation. He scored Qatar's only goal at the World Cup four years ago when they hosted the tournament.

The former Al Duhail star has already made 70 appearances for Qatar, scoring 16 goals for the national team.

Meanwhile, Qatar's preparation towards the tournament saw them engage Ireland, losing 1-0 to the Europeans.

Qatar will round up preparations with a final friendly against El Salvador in California, USA, before they begin their World Cup with a game against Switzerland in Group B on June 13. The Asians will then face Canada and Bosnia in their remaining group games.
