Hohoe United given 72 hours to challenge heavy GFA sanctions

Hohoe United FC have been handed a narrow three-day window to appeal a sweeping disciplinary ruling that has rocked the club and its supporters following their withdrawal from the Ghana Premier League.

The decision, delivered on Friday, May 1, 2026, by the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association, imposes a lengthy ban from all domestic competitions along with a series of far-reaching sanctions. The club now has just 72 hours from notification to challenge the verdict before the Appeals Committee.

Central to the ruling is a multi-season suspension that sidelines Hohoe United from competitive football, effectively derailing their immediate future. In addition, all registered players will be granted free - or “floating” - status, allowing them to leave and sign for new clubs, subject only to any pre-existing transfer-related obligations.

The financial implications are equally severe. The club has been ordered to refund the GH?1 million received from the GFA as part of its preparations for the 2025/26 season, along with any equipment and logistical support provided. The Committee further emphasized that the suspension does not absolve Hohoe United of any outstanding financial commitments to the GFA or its stakeholders.

The sanctions stem from the club’s unilateral decision to withdraw from the ongoing league campaign, an act deemed a breach of competition regulations and a serious case of misconduct.
